The Motherland Calls! (Russian: Родина-мать зовёт!, pronounced as Rodina-Mat' zovyot!) is the statue of an 85-meter Slavic woman raised on the Mamayev Kurgan hill. Its objective is to commemorate the Battle of Stalingrad, which was given during the Second World War.
This statue is an allegory of the country that calls his children to fight against the enemy.
The project started from May 1959 and culminated in October 1967 (it took almost 8 years to be competed). For the inauguration date, this statue was considered the highest in the world.
